John, I just got back from filing my statement of candidacy with the State Board of Elections, which means that I am officially on the ballot to be your next North Carolina State Treasurer.
In some ways, this step is just a formality—after all, I’ve been running since this past March—but it’s also an important milestone in our race. Once filing closes at the end of next week, the board will be set. We’ll know for certain what this race will look like: who my possible Republican opponents will be next Fall, and whether or not I’ll face a primary in the Spring.
That makes today both exciting and a little nerve wracking. We’ve had to be ready for anything for months now, but once filing closes, we’ll know exactly what we’re up against. My team and I will be able to narrow our strategy and really commit to a course of action for the next few months based on what happens.
But for the next few days at least, we still need to be ready for anything, and that means I need to ask you once again to help support this campaign.
We may get a primary challenge, meaning we’ll have to spend the next few months funding an aggressive field operation to help make sure that primary voters know about our campaign—and that the Treasurer’s race is even on the ballot.
We may find that someone we aren’t expecting files for the Republican nomination, meaning that instead of being able to hit the ground running to tell voters about why Rep. John Bradford is the wrong choice for Treasurer, we’ll have to develop multiple different strategies and messages just in case we’re facing a different opponent.
In fact, we may end up with both of those things happening. Or neither of them. We just won’t know until filing closes, but we need to be ready. John, can I ask you to pitch in to this campaign once again? Anything you can spare will help ensure that we have the funding we need to face whatever this race has in store for us.

Whatever happens, I’ll still be getting out to every corner of North Carolina to make sure voters know how years of Republican governance in our state has failed our people, and know about our plans to create a state government that invests in their ability to succeed. And whatever happens, I’m so glad to have you with me.
Thanks,
Wesley Harris
