Every day, judges make decisions that affect people’s lives and their fundamental rights. It is critical that judges represent - and understand - the communities they serve.

That is why we are supporting community leader, advocate, and lawyer Perla Tirado for Judge on the 14th subcircuit, which includes Cicero, Berwyn and the Chicago neighborhoods of Little Village, Pilsen, Back of the Yards, Archer Heights and McKinley Park.

Perla is from the community she seeks to serve. She grew up in a union and immigrant family, and understands the issues our communities face. In order to make our broken criminal justice system more equitable, we must elect leaders like Perla.

The incumbent judge on the 14th subcircuit does not have roots in our neighborhoods, and he was appointed as a political favor. It is alarming and disturbing when the people appointed as judges to decide our fate are not from our communities.
