John,
As you all know, we made history last year by electing Summer Lee as the first Black woman ever elected to Congress from Pennsylvania in United States history! This is a big deal for our community and for everyone who believes in racial justice and reflective democracy. .
But here's the reality: Black women from working class families like Summer and left behind communities like Braddock, PA are the **most** underfunded candidates and struggle to raise enough to fund their campaigns. One major reason — Black women don’t have many boy’s club billionaire friends.
In fact, Black women usually raise only **a third** of what white female candidates do. This means they have less money for advertising, talking to voters, and everything else it takes to win a campaign. And that’s before you factor in the millions of dollars our Right-wing funded opponents spend on attacking us with racist smears and baseless lies.
This is where your support can make a real difference. Imagine if we could close that funding gap. Even a small donation from you could help us reach more people, share our message more widely, and give Summer the resources she needs to keep fighting for the people who need it most! Whether it's $5, $20, or more, every contribution adds up!
This funding gap is a huge problem for EVERY single one of us and for the future of our democracy. Without enough support, Black women can't bring the lived experience and fearless fight for the issues our communities are facing every single day. Sadly, **29 states have NEVER elected a Black woman** to Congress, and that number would still be at 30 if folks like you didn’t step up to help Summer beat the odds.
Summer’s win shows that a better future is possible, but she needs our help to keep the momentum going and fend off vicious attacks from the right.
Let's make Summer's victory the start of something bigger. Together, we can build a future where everyone's voice matters, our democracy reflects us all, and every leader has a fair chance to make a difference.
Thanks for your continued support and for being part of this historic people-powered movement.
In solidarity,
Team Summer Lee
