1) Kamala Harris Just Agreed To Spend Another Trillion on Climate Change
Joe Biden must be the WORST negotiator in the history of the planet.

The White House has announced at the COP28 Climate Change Conference that it will unilaterally impose regulations that will cost the U.S. economy a cool $1 trillion by ending methane emissions in the United States (methane is natural gas). Kamala Harris, a climate expert, warned the attendees at the climate conference: “The clock is no longer ticking, it’s banging. We must make up for lost time.”

This puts a regulatory chokehold on American oil and gas producers, while virtually no other country — especially not China — has agreed to do the same. The price tag: $1 trillion of your and my money.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world is using more natural gas than ever before. This reminds us of the famous scene in "Animal House" when Otter declares: “This situation absolutely requires a futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.” Bluto, played by John Belushi — but think Kamala — replies: “we’re just the guys to do it.”

As for China, President Xi, can’t even be bothered to participate (evidently he isn’t hearing any clocks banging) and he is surely falling off his throne in Beijing laughing at our inept stupidity and gullibility.

2) Green Groups Are No Longer Promoting a Cleaner Environment
Speaking of the left’s hyper-obsession with climate change, we read this recent headline from the New York Times with a mixture of shock and disgust.

Green groups are supposed to be securing a pristine environment by keeping our rivers and streams clean. They are supposed to be preserving wildlife, maintaining the splendor of our national parks, and saving elephants and tigers.

Not anymore. We’ve warned on these pages that the radical climate agenda and its lunatic campaign to end fossil fuels is detracting from achievable green objectives and making the condition of the environment worse.

Now the NY Times has confirmed our greatest fears. We quote:

A significant shift in donor contributions to nonprofits fighting climate change in recent years has left some of the nation’s biggest environmental organizations facing critical shortfalls in programs on toxic chemicals, radioactive contamination and wildlife protection.

The Natural Resources Defense Council, The Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife and the Environmental Working Group, which have been at the forefront of efforts to clean up waste water, regulate pesticides and adopt tougher standards for atomic power plants, are facing similar financial problems...

“Funders that had a nuclear program or a toxics program have left those fields entirely and have gone to climate change.

In 2022 the green groups spent and raised $8 billion on climate change activities. That doesn’t fully include the tens of billions of dollars that governments are spending on climate issues.

So far, half a trillion dollars have been spent and the needle has not moved one iota. Fossil fuel use was at an all-time high in 2022 and 2023, and carbon emissions have been climbing rather than receding. So what has all this money bought? The United Nations now says trillions need to be spent each year to stop global warming.

The fanatics in the Biden administration and the billionaire donor class insist that we must save the planet from carbon emissions, and if that means retreating from the fight against real pollution – so be it.

3) Nearly Three of 10 Americans Have Been Victims of Crime in Past Year
During last week’s “Red State vs. Blue State” debate, California Governor Gavin Newsom didn’t even try to repeat the Democratic claim that crime is down nationwide. Instead, he falsely claimed that “Florida has a red state murder problem.” In reality, new FBI data show violent crimes in Florida fell by nearly 32% in 2022 compared to 2019, while California saw violent crimes spike by more than 30%.

A new Gallup Poll finds that 63% of Americans describe the crime problem in the U.S. as either extremely or very serious, up from 54% in 2021.

Even more disturbing, a total of 28% say they or someone in their household has been victimized in the past year by one of seven different crimes: vandalism, car theft, burglary, robbery, armed robbery, sexual assault, and battery. That’s up from 20% in 2020. The Democrat solution: defund the cops!

Don’t believe us? As recently as May, a majority of House Democrats voted against a resolution that condemns efforts to defund or abolish the police. Lawmakers voted 301-119 to pass the resolution but House Democrats opposed it by 117 to 87. Three Democrats voted "present," and all but two Republicans voted for it.

4) If You Have To Be Poor, America’s a Good Place To Be
Our friends at the Illinois Policy Institute have done a jaw-dropping analysis on poverty. They report that the worldwide poverty rate is now estimated to be below 10% today.

But in the U.S. the official rate is 11.5%.

Huh? Does anyone really believe that the richest country in the world has a higher percentage of poor people than the average country?

The 2023 poverty income level for a family of four is about $30,000. In most countries in the world an income of $30,000 for a family makes them rich, or at least upper middle income, not poor. But the median household income across the globe is a little under $10,000 a year. This means our poverty rate is roughly triple the MEDIAN income in all other countries.

When counting benefits like food stamps, IPI notes that “statistically, no American lives below the international poverty level.”

To take it one step further, the poorest person in this country has a higher living standard than a middle-income family in many countries around the world (see chart).

5) Best Evidence Shows No Benefit to Child Mask Mandates
We just cringe when we see parents STILL putting masks on their kids as they play in the park or kick the soccer ball around. For what?

We hope the CDC is finally convinced to never again recommend forced child-masking by this new systematic review published in the BMJ Journal Archives of Disease in Childhood. What a shame that you still see parents putting masks on their first and second-graders.
