Real Justice is working to elect reform-minded prosecutors who will stop jailing people for low-level crimes, and instead find them resources to get their lives back on track.

Real Justice

John,

Angel Garcia is a New Yorker who spent 15 days in jail at Rikers Island because he and his family could not afford his $20,000 bail. His crime? Stealing bikes and selling them to put food on the table for his family. Angel stood accused and was not yet convicted of any crime during the time he spent in jail.

Angel’s story is like that of so many New Yorkers, and other people across this country who turn to crime as a last resort to survive. Earlier this year, New York put into effect bail reforms that would fix their broken bail system and keep hundreds of New Yorkers from the traumatizing experience of jail.

Bail reform initiatives like the one in New York can be replicated throughout our country. Real Justice is working to elect reform-minded prosecutors who will stop jailing people for low-level crimes. But we rely on grassroots contributions in order to fund our work.

Can you chip in $5 today to help us continue to organize for bail reform and elect District Attorneys who will fight for this reform?

Contribute $5

Jailing people like Angel costs taxpayers thousands of dollars each day, and does not take action at the root causes of these types of crime: poverty, addiction, or mental illness.

Bail reform opponents in New York are working around the clock to reverse our progress. It’s up to us to protect the most vulnerable in our communities.

Bail reform opponents want judges to keep jailing people like Angel who will never be able to afford paying bail, which will only increase jail populations leading to a larger burden on our communities’ taxes and continue traumatizing desperate people who are only looking for a way out of poverty.

With your support, we will continue to organize across the country to keep electing District Attorneys who will fight to implement life-saving reforms like ending cash bail.

We can reform this broken system, but only with your contribution today.

Thank you for your ongoing work and support,

Team Real Justice
