Morningside Center Morningside Center for Teaching Responsibility Statement on the Coronavirus and Our Work in Schools To protect our staff, school staff, young people, and their families from the coronavirus and slow its spread, enabling our healthcare providers to treat as many people as possible, Morningside Center is temporarily suspending our work in New York City schools, effective on Friday, March 13, 2020. This decision breaks our hearts, and we know it will cause hardship. But it’s the only decision we can make, as an organization whose name includes “social responsibility.” This decision is not the result of any direct incident, but rather a move of caution and concern. We don’t want to put anyone we work with at further risk, especially in a society where so many are denied adequate healthcare. This temporary suspension includes training, coaching, and other work in schools, as well as our centralized trainings. We will resume our work in schools when the risk subsides. Over the coming days, we will be reaching out to school and district leaders and all those we collaborate with to offer our support. We will also be increasing our capacity to provide support online. We will provide our extended and “beloved community” with updates regularly. We send everyone our warmest wishes and solidarity. We look forward to the moment when we can again work side by side with you to make our schools and our society more kind, just, and equitable.
