Dean Craig Member Introductions Reports: September Board meeting minutes were approved. Membership was 11,533 as of November 30, 2023, a 0.6% increase from September 2023. The annual financial report is available to all current members upon email request. Steve Dulan provided a legal update. 6,143 CPL students were certified since the December 2022 Annual Meeting through 1,314 classes by MCRGO's 312 instructors. The Executive Director detailed MCRGO's newly formalized 3x3 digital media strategy which added Instagram and Twitter in 2023 to Facebook, the Monday E'News, and quarterly On Target newsletter. Election of Officers: Susan McCray-King was re-elected as President & Chair. Rich Martin was re-elected as 1st Vice Chair. Steve Dulan was re-elected as 2nd Vice Chair. Dawn Fuller was re-elected as Secretary & Treasurer. Old Business: MCRGO added the Northern Lower Peninsula Picnic at Gaylord and NRA-ILA Freedom Fest at Howell as events in 2023. These will become permanent annual events. Member and public attendance at in-person events increased in 2023. MCRGO Instructor Chuck Bates provided a demonstration of the new Interactive Multi-Target Training Simulator to be used at the winter outdoor shows at Novi and Grand Rapids. Orange safety paint will be added to the barrel of the 1911 recoil enabled laser pistol at the suggestion of those present at the meeting. New Business: MCRGO-PAC for 2024 will be appointed by the Board at its March meeting from member applications solicited in the Winter 2024 On Target newsletter and a January Monday E'News. A requested appropriation for a legislative CPL class at Lansing was tabled for a special meeting of the Board. Rep. David Martin (R-Davison), Rob Pallarito of Sen. Hoitenga's staff (R-Manton), and MCRGO's Executive Director presented a legislative forecast for 2024. The elimination of the printed version of the On Target newsletter which goes out to 224 members without email addresses on file (less than 2% of total members) was discussed. Communication will be sent by U.S. Mail to those members requesting an email address to transition them to the digital version. The Board has tabled the elimination of the printed version of On Target. The Board voted to eliminate the Places to Avoid list at MCRGO.org. It will be replaced with a pro-gun business directory, details of which will be discussed at the March Board meeting. New Legislation: MCRGO SUPPORTS SB 584 & HB 5132 which would prohibit enforcement of federal limitations on firearms. MCRGO SUPPORTS SB 664 & HB 5334 which would provide for firearms safety instruction. MCRGO takes NO POSITION on HB 5153 which would prohibit possession or distribution of a firearm or ammunition under certain circumstances. MCRGO SUPPORTS HB 5225 & 5226 which would increase penalties for intentionally discharging a firearm from vehicle or at a dwelling or a potentially occupied structure. MCRGO OPPOSES HB 5291 which would prohibit concealed pistols in State Capitol and in certain state buildings. MCRGO SUPPORTS HB 5310 which would prohibit awarding contracts to financial institutions that refuse to do business with certain persons. MCRGO takes NO POSITION on HB 5377 which would establish liability for the safety of individuals in a designated weapon-free zone. MCRGO SUPPORTS HB 5381 which would impose liability for governmental agencies that maintain weapon-free zones. Member Business: Members present provided various comments and questions.
