Together, we’ve learned so much about the communities we share and the world beyond our dooryards. Here are some of the MCV staff’s favorite programs of 2023:
Kathleen Meil (me!): It's impossible to choose a favorite, but I was especially inspired by “Passages in American Art.” There's so much to learn and explore through the Portland Museum of Art's reinterpretation of its permanent collection!
Will Sedlack: “Citizens' Assemblies: Putting Governance in the Hands of Everyday People”, as it made me deeply consider how we make decisions in a democracy and how we might improve our decision-making on difficult topics in the years to come. Also, Bailey was so smart and inspiring!
Maggie Somers: “Birds in the Built Environment,” and not just because birder Nick Lund is an L&L regular! I had no idea how deadly glass windows, especially those that cover a building, could be to our Avian friends. This program is a must-watch for both fellow bird watchers and concerned citizens who want to learn about how the BirdSafe Maine program is protecting Maine’s birds and how you can volunteer to help.
Stacie Haines: I really enjoyed “Maine Climate Corps: Strengthening Maine’s Communities.” There is so much exciting work happening at the intersection of climate change and volunteer service in Maine, and yet, there is so much more to do. I recommend this webinar for anyone who wants to learn a bit about what is happening on the ground.
We’re always on the lookout for potential Lunch & Learn speakers. From articles, podcasts, and programs to friends, neighbors, and local events, we find inspiration everywhere – and we know you do, too. We would love to hear from you – our dedicated members and Lunch & Learn regulars – to learn more about the important work and inspiring people you’d like to learn more about in the year ahead. Let us know by emailing Maggie Somers!
See you in 2024!
