Jack, Daily Kos sits at the crossroads of delivering the news and providing the tools so that our readers can take immediate and effective action on what they are reading. No other organization does this work.

Just like news outlets, Daily Kos relies in part on advertising revenue to pay our bills and just like advocacy organizations, we rely mostly on grassroots donations to power our work. The problem is that both advertising revenue and small-dollar fundraising are declining.

As news outlets scramble to stay afloat, many have laid off staff. In fact there have been a record number of news media layoffs this year. Progressive advocacy organizations are having the same problem and have faced layoffs across the movement, some organizations have had to shutdown completely.

Without proper funding resources, it will be harder for us to protect our democracy and turnout Democratic voters in 2024. We need a strong and independent news media to provide the public with prudent and honest information about the elections. We need robust advocacy organizations to help educate, mobilize and turnout Democratic voters.

Daily Kos is the country's largest news and activism hub, but we are not immune to the financial hardships that have plagued both news outlets and progressive advocacy organizations.
