John,
When Speaker Mike Johnson discussed the conservative plan for a “fiscal commission” in his first speech as Speaker of the House, he breathed new life into what was previously viewed by many as a far-flung right-wing pipe-dream.
This past week, House Budget Committee Chair Jodey Arrington held his first hearing on this proposed closed-door commission, and he’s talking about demanding it in exchange for keeping the government running beyond January 19th.1
A closed-door commission is a real threat to the future of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and more. The right wing wants to try and cut our way to prosperity without even attempting to find new revenues by making the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share in taxes. We’re paying attention―we know Speaker Johnson, along with many others in his caucus, is on record supporting cuts to Social Security and Medicare while also supporting extending the massively costly Trump tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy.2
We have only a few weeks to defeat this fiscal commission before we near the next potential government shutdown. Rush a donation today to power our campaign to stop a fiscal commission before it starts.

We’ve already sent more than 100,000 messages to members of Congress demanding no closed-door commissions that cut critical programs for low-income and working people. But we need to keep the pressure on―or it could have devastating consequences, not just for low-income people, but also for older Americans, people with disabilities, and the most marginalized including Black and Latino Americans, and other people of color.
Instead of a fiscal commission to cut critical programs for those most in need, we’re demanding Congress make the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share! Help fuel this work.

John,
A “fiscal commission” to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and more might not be some far-flung right-wing pipe-dream. It’s getting real traction in Congress right now and we need to fight back.
Coming out of this week’s House Budget Committee hearing on a proposed fiscal commission was this headline:
With government funding running out for some programs on January 19th, conservatives including Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, are using this urgent deadline to demand cuts to critical programs. And they want to do deeper cuts behind closed doors so the American people won’t know who to blame.
Wouldn’t it be great if instead they focused on the need for the wealthy and corporations to pay their fair share in taxes to meet the needs of everyday people?
Help us fight back against a fiscal commission to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and more behind closed doors. Instead of cuts, we’re demanding Congress raise new revenues from millionaires, billionaires, and corporations. Rush a donation today!

What right-wingers won’t admit publicly is that this fiscal commission is not really about our nation’s debt. It’s really about slashing services to pay for more tax cuts for their wealthy campaign contributors.
That’s why House Republicans have already voted to cut $67 billion in critical IRS funding that is allowing the agency to crack down on wealthy and corporate tax cheats. And why they’re pushing legislation to cut the taxes of the wealthy and corporations alike.
A so-called fiscal commission is about cutting critical needs programs. But we cannot cut our way to prosperity!
Rush a donation today to grow our campaign fighting back against a closed-door commission to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and more!
