There’s consensus that these maps are a direct attack on Lucy

John – Since Friday, the press has had a chance to react to the new Congressional maps released by the Georgia state legislature.

The consensus? These maps are a cheap attempt by Republicans to force Lucy McBath out of her seat representing GA-07. Here’s a glimpse at what the pundits are saying:

It’s the second time in two years that Republicans have targeted McBath, a gun control activist. McBath, who is Black, initially won election in a majority-white district in Atlanta’s northern suburbs. Georgia Republicans in 2021 took that district, once represented by Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and drew it into much more Republican territory.” – The Associated Press

“Republicans have tried – and failed – to oust McBath from office. Handel’s comeback bid in 2020 fell flat. So did a GOP-engineered effort to draw her out of her district a year later…[Now,] Lawmakers reconfigured the 7th District -- the seat now held by McBath -- into a deeply conservative territory that stretches from Sandy Springs to the north Georgia mountains.” – The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A new Georgia congressional map proposal aims to divide Rep. Lucy McBath’s (D-Ga.) district, while keeping Republicans’ 9-5 majority among House members…It’s the second time redistricting has targeted McBath, a prominent gun control activist who was elected to the 6th District in 2018.” – The Hill

The whole country is watching Georgia right now to see how Lucy responds. We need a groundswell of support to show we won’t let Republicans decide when Lucy’s time in Congress is over. Can you donate ASAP to help us hit our $15k goal?
