Friend,

As we commemorate International Day of People with Disabilities, we want to shed light on the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ young people who also have a disability. Your steadfast support has been instrumental in enabling us to address the pressing issues highlighted by our recent research study ([link removed]) .

In our sample of LGBTQ+ young people, a striking 29% identified as individuals with a disability. Unfortunately, this intersectionality brings with it significant challenges. LGBTQ+ young people with disabilities reported higher rates of mental health symptoms and suicidality compared to their peers without disabilities. A staggering 65% reported feeling discriminated against in the past year due to their actual or perceived disability.

There is hope and a clear path forward, Friend. The power of therapy in transforming lives is evident. After receiving therapy, nearly two-thirds (68%) of LGBTQ+ young people with a disability expressed that their therapist understood their disability to some extent or a lot. This understanding proved to be a crucial factor, directly contributing to a remarkable reduction in suicide attempts over the past year – a testament to the impact each of us can have as we strive to be the one ([link removed]) for LGBTQ+ young people with disabilities.

Your support plays a vital role in making these transformative experiences possible. By donating to The Trevor Project ([link removed]) , you contribute to creating a safer, more empathetic space for LGBTQ+ young people with disabilities to navigate the complexities of their identity and mental health. Together, we can break down barriers, challenge discrimination, and empower these resilient individuals to thrive.

Support from individuals like you enables The Trevor Project to continue our work to end LGBTQ+ youth suicide through our crisis services as well as the development of resources and guides like these to promote education and allyship.
