We’ve always known that an open Senate seat in a swing state would be close. But a recent poll further proved that out.

A new poll released by the National Republican Senate Committee of Michigan voters shows a generic Republican candidate in a statistical dead heat with Elissa:

Despite the great success Michigan Democrats have had recently, Michiganders know it’s not at all permanent: Michigan is a swingy state that can go back and forth from Democrat to Republican if we don’t stay sharp and organized.

While it’s clear this race will be our toughest fight yet, Elissa is no stranger to tough races, and we know exactly what it will take to win. She’s won three tough elections in five years, and she has a serious, data-informed plan to win.

That’s why we’ve started building a foundation early to reach voters in every corner of Michigan and educate them on Elissa’s background, and why she’s the best person to represent our state in the U.S. Senate.

This poll shows that right now, 14% of Michigan voters are undecided and 46% of independent voters have yet to hear about Elissa, so there’s still a lot of work we have to do to win. We need to get to these folks through TV ads, digital outreach, and by expanding our ground game to meet people where they are.

But the stakes are high – this poll proves that Democrats’ majority in the Senate will come down to what happens right here in Michigan. We can’t take anything for granted, and we can’t take our foot off the gas.
