Hi,

Getting corporate consolidation under control is a critical step the government can take to protect consumers, workers, and small businesses. That’s why the Federal Trade Commission must stop two of the five biggest supermarket chains in the country from merging.

Kroger and Albertsons are trying to merge for $24.6 billion,1 which would create a grocery store behemoth and nightmare for consumers, small businesses, and workers. Prices will go up at the grocery store, workers will lose jobs, and competitors will be put out of business.

Sign the petition: The Federal Trade Commission must stop the Kroger-Albertsons mega-merger!

This grocery mega-merger would give Kroger-Albertsons way too much market power, and allow their executives to jack up prices at the expense of every shopper. This is corporate greed at the grocery store — where price-gouging is already wreaking havoc on Americans’ bank accounts.

The larger the supermarket corporation, the more control they have on the prices shoppers pay. Because of their already massive size, these corporations are also able to negotiate lower prices from distributors.2 Big companies like Kroger and Albertsons save money for themselves, charge higher prices for consumers, and put smaller competitors out of business.

While CEOs enjoy massive profits that go up and up, we suffer from grocery prices that go up and up. Antitrust laws exist to stop this corporate greed. The FTC must step in and protect Americans from even more out of control prices at the grocery store, and the impending Kroger-Albertsons mega-merger.

Tell the FTC to stop the Kroger-Albertsons supermarket monopoly to protect consumers!

Thanks for taking action,

Tihi and the team at Demand Progress
