We must always remember that freedom is not free. The reality of veteran suicide is heartbreaking and unacceptable. The SAR flag, created by U.S. Air Force veteran and Long Island resident Kevin Hertell, serves to recognize those who have died by suicide and as a reminder to those who are struggling that they are not alone. We need to stand by our veterans and members of the military and ensure that they have the support and quality care they deserve when they come home. Learn more here. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Delivers Federal Funding For Amityville Police This week, Andrew stood with Amityville Mayor Dennis Siry, Police Chief Bryan Burton, law enforcement officers, and other village officials to unveil three new police vehicles which will replace aging and out-of-date cruisers, modernize Amityville’s police fleet, and improve public safety. Andrew was proud to secure the funding for these vehicles through a Community Project Funding request and will continue to work to deliver federal dollars directly to communities across New York's 2nd district. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Ensuring Veterans Gets Honors He Deserves A Vietnam Veteran qualified for multiple awards during his time in service but never received them, including a Purple Heart. Andrew's casework team contacted the Department of the Army to assist with securing the awards. The veteran will now be receiving the awards and medals he earned for his service to our country. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the federal government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Votes To Prevent National Park Land In New York From Being Used To House Illegal Immigrants Andrew voted to pass Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis' Protecting our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act to stop the Biden Administration from housing illegal immigrants on National Park Service land like Floyd Bennett Field in New York. President Biden's open border policies have made every state a border state. We must secure our border and stop incentivizing illegal immigration. It's time for the Senate to act on House-passed legislation to get this crisis under control. Andrew Votes To Hold Iran Accountable This week, Andrew voted to pass, H.R. 5961, the No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act. This bill would direct the Biden Administration to sanction any foreign or international financial institution that facilitates the transfer of the $6 billion in Iranian assets that were released in September 2023. This bill effectively prevents Iran, the largest state sponsor of terrorism, from accessing these funds, which they could then use to fund their nefarious activities. Andrew Stands Against Terrorism and Hate Andrew will not stand for terrorism or calls for the eradication of the world's only Jewish State, which is intrinsically antisemitic. That's why this week he cosponsored a resolution to call for Hamas to immediately and unconditionally surrender, cease its attacks, and release all hostages. He also cosponsored a resolution that expresses the sense of Congress that the chant, ‘‘from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’’ is antisemitic and its use must be condemned, arguing the phrase rejects the idea of peace and stability, and is instead a call to arms for the destruction of the State of Israel. Andrew will always stand with our Jewish community against hate and with our friend and Ally Israel. Thanks for reading! Do you know someone who might like to receive these updates?
