We’re taking precautions
Dear Friend,
In light of several cities across the country announcing a state of emergency due to the Coronavirus, the Young Center is taking precautions to protect the health and well-being of the children we serve and our staff, volunteers, families, and communities.
As of March 11, 2020, all staff are working from home as a precautionary measure. The facilities where children are in custody are developing their own protocols and we will follow their guidance for meeting and communicating with children in custody. We have advised volunteer Child Advocates to refrain from in-person meetings with children and accompanying children to immigration proceedings, if they are feeling ill, and we've shared information on protecting themselves through good hygiene and healthy practices. In the meantime, our teams continue to fight for children’s release from custody, for fair proceedings in immigration court, and for changes to federal agency practices that will protect children’s health.
We anticipate postponing our annual Chicago soiree ([link removed]) from May to a later date, which we will announce in the coming weeks. We are also asking our supporters and ambassadors to postpone in-person fundraising events scheduled for March and April or hold them virtually through online communities.
We are carefully monitoring guidance from the Center for Disease Control and other public health organizations to provide up-to-date, accurate information to our staff and volunteers. We we are operating out of an abundance of caution and health and well-being are our first priority.
Sincerely,
Young Center Staff

The Young Center works with the most vulnerable unaccompanied and separated immigrant children in federal custody so their voices are heard and their best interests are protected. We also advocate for an immigration system that treats children as children. To learn more about work, visit ** www.theyoungcenter.org ([link removed])
