Yesterday, I was among the 311 House representatives who voted to expel George Santos from Congress. Santos’ disgraceful conduct during both his campaign and his time in Congress makes him one of only six members of the House of Representatives to ever be expelled.
Now New York’s 3rd Congressional District will be headed to the polls within the next 90 days for a special election, and we have the chance to turn this seat blue ahead of next year’s congressional races.
To be clear, George Santos didn’t just lie about his background. He didn’t just establish himself as an embarrassment to Congress and to himself. The House Ethics Committee showed he defrauded his supporters to pay for Botox, vacations, and luxury goods, and hid the state of his personal and campaign finances from federal regulators.
The next representative for New York’s 3rd Congressional District must be a Democrat to help ensure we can take back the majority in the House in 2024.
