John, Islamophobia isn’t new to me. I experienced it long before I ever ran for public office.

But it isn’t everyday when the hateful, flat-out racist comments come from high-ranking government employees. Just look what the Lieutenant Governor’s chief of staff said about me online:

I’m sickened by this comment, John. But it shows us the true colors of the North Carolina Republican Party.

Well, here’s my truth: I haven’t let this stop me from fighting for a better North Carolina. I will never let it stop me from standing up for those who have struggled to make their voices heard. We cannot let these hateful attacks win, John.

We’ve defeated this hatred before. People like you helped me become the first Muslim woman elected to any office in North Carolina. And as I get ready to run for reelection, I know the attacks will keep coming. So I’m counting on you sticking with me.
