Education Committee Inquiry

What should we teach young people about money John? 💷

MPs on the Education Committee have launched a parliamentary inquiry to answer exactly this, alongside a number of other questions to improve financial education in schools. [1]

For Positive Money, the answer is easy:

  • The truth about where money comes from,

  • The role of the Bank of England, and

  • key concepts like interest rates, taxes, and pensions.

Our evidence submission is ready to go (you can read the full 5-page response here), now we need to make it as strong as possible with thousands of signatures - including yours John!

If you agree young people should learn the truth about money, add your name today by hitting the button below.

We believe financial education should help young people leave school equipped to make the best decisions possible about their money, and to engage with democratic issues about the economic policies that will impact their lives every day. But right now, crucial parts of the curriculum are missing. Young people deserve to know the truth.

The Committee are particularly keen to hear from teachers, pupils, and school administrators, so we’ve included a drop-down box on the form to let us know if you are, and a comment box to add any extra thoughts you’d like to share.

Every name we can add to our statement before the inquiry closes on the 15th December, will prove to MPs how important the public think improving financial education really is.

In the face of soaring interest rates, spiralling mortgages and rents, and a cost of living crisis caused by runaway inflation - understanding our money and banking system has never been more important. If you agree, please hit the button below to add your name today.

Thanks so much for your support,

Hannah, Positive Money
