John,

This week marked 30 years since President Clinton signed the landmark Brady Bill into law. After years of advocacy by Jim and Sarah Brady, our fearless namesakes, this law created our nation’s first background check system on gun sales to prevent prohibited purchasers from obtaining firearms.

The gunman who shot Jim during the 1981 assassination attempt of President Reagan would have been blocked from buying his gun if federal background checks had existed. Jim and Sarah knew our country urgently needed common-sense solutions to prevent the trauma and pain that their family experienced. Three decades later, we know Jim and Sarah would be proud of the results.

Since 1994, the Brady Background Check system has blocked nearly 4.9 MILLION transfers of firearms to prohibited purchasers, helping save countless lives. But our work isn’t finished yet. Today in America, 1 in 5 guns are still sold WITHOUT a Brady Background Check, including at gun shows and through thriving online gun marketplaces.

Just months ago, President Biden issued a rule that, if put into effect, would be the broadest expansion of firearm background checks since Jim and Sarah Brady passed the Brady Bill 30 years ago. The rule aims to clarify who is required to obtain a federal firearm license, which will ensure that individuals selling firearms for profit conduct background checks, moving us as close as possible to universal background checks without the urgently needed Congressional action.

And that’s why I’m reaching out today, John. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Brady Bill, will you sign our letter to support this rule and expand Brady Background Checks? We have less than a week to show an outpouring of support, and the NRA and its allies are on our heels, so please take action today and help us keep Jim and Sarah’s legacy alive!

APPLICATIONS EXTENDED: Team ENOUGH Youth Advocacy Training Program

[link removed] [[link removed]]

Exciting news — we’ve extended our application deadline for Team ENOUGH’s Youth Advocacy Training Program! That means there’s still time for a young person you know to apply for our training programs in Florida and Virginia!

Formerly known as the Team ENOUGH Lobbying Collective, the Advocacy Training Program is the only national, youth-led program that trains and mobilizes young people to meet with lawmakers and push for critical gun reform measures. Now in its fifth year, Team ENOUGH is seeking youth (ages 13-26) to apply and become changemakers in Florida and Virginia.

Haven’t advocated for gun violence prevention legislation before? That’s OK! Members will participate in valuable, hands-on trainings with policy and grassroots experts over a period of six weeks. Then, members take those skills straight to state capitols, urging lawmakers to pass gun violence prevention legislation, and pushing back against dangerous policies.

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. That’s why it’s so important for lawmakers to hear directly from young people on this issue. So if you know a young person who is ready to make their voice heard and fight for legislative solutions to end this epidemic, encourage them to apply ! [[link removed]]
