Like other elected leaders across New York and around the country, I’m closely monitoring developments related to COVID-19 (coronavirus) and the ongoing efforts to mitigate its spread.
As of this morning, New York City has 62 confirmed cases. There is obviously a clear need for calm vigilance and preparedness, which means that we need to listen to the public health officials working around the clock to both understand the virus and reduce the risk of community spread.
The best weapon we have against COVID-19 right now is information. Here are the most important precautions to take:
-
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
-
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
-
Avoid touching your face
-
Stay home when you are sick
Please stay safe, John. And remember to wash your hands.
