Last night, far-right Florida Governor Ron DeSantis went up against
California’s own Governor Gavin Newsom in a debate, and needless to say,
it didn’t go well for DeSantis…

The debate on Fox News was framed as a battle between red and blue states.
But what we actually saw was the contrast between a true leader and
someone pandering to Donald Trump and the most fringe extremists of his
party.

Gov. Newsom called out DeSantis for his disgusting attacks on the LGBTQ+
community, his hypocrisy around Florida’s response to the COVID pandemic,
his failure to protect communities from deadly mass shootings, and his use
of vulnerable migrants as political pawns.

Meanwhile, California has led the way in defending the rights and
well-being of all people, from protecting transgender students to acting
on climate change, saving lives from the gun violence epidemic, and
defending reproductive freedom.

Gov. Newsom highlighted the progress California and the Biden
Administration have made, while calling out the outrageous lies and
dangerous misinformation pushed by DeSantis.

The difference in these two Governors’ visions for our states and country
could not be more different, and I’m proud to work alongside Gov. Newsom
in fighting for the progress and justice every person deserves.
