Quick Update: Border, Inflation, and Iran
December 1, 2023
Protecting Our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act
Due to the influx of people crossing the southern border, the administration is attempting to use national park lands to house illegal migrants. I helped pass the Protecting Our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act (H.R. 5283) to stop this plan and ensure taxpayer money is not used to implement this misguided policy.
Financial Services Committee
A Biden administration official testified before the House Financial Services Committee this week. During the hearing, I raised my concerns about the rising cost of living for seniors and working families.
Inflation is impacting families in more ways than one. Heating your home will be expensive this winter. The National Energy Assistance Directors Association projects heating costs to be the second highest since 2014. To bring costs down, we need to unleash American energy.
No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act
This week, I helped pass the No Funds for Iranian Terrorism Act (H.R. 5961) in the House of Representatives. This legislation imposes immediate, mandatory sanctions on any financial institution engaging in a transaction with the Qatari banks holding the $6 billion of Iranian funds President Biden released earlier this year.
This bill effectively prevents Iran, the largest state sponsor of terrorism, from accessing these funds, which they could then use to fund their nefarious activities.
Service Academy Nominations
In Wisconsin, I had the opportunity to meet with 12 Wisconsin High School Students who plan to enroll in U.S. military academies.
Meeting with many military academy hopefuls reminds us that the future is bright for our country. These Southeast Wisconsin high school students are proudly committed to serving our nation.
It was great to see Cadet Jordan Tucker, West Point Class of 2024, at the event. I nominated Jordan in 2019 and was happy he stopped by to meet with this year’s applicants.
On Wisconsin,
Bryan Steil Member of Congress
