INTRODUCING LEGISLATION TO BOOST SNAP RECIPIENTS’ ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOODS

I recently joined a bipartisan and bicameral group of my colleagues to introduce legislation that seeks to boost access to healthy foods for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients.

I’ve had the opportunity to visit food banks across the 5th District to learn more about their efforts to combat hunger. I’m incredibly grateful for the work they do to serve Oregonians in need, and I want to do my part at the federal level to improve access to healthy food options for these families.

Currently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) does not gather data on how SNAP impacts access to nutritious food. The SNAP Nutrition Security Act would add reporting requirements to help the federal government better understand the affordability of these foods and how to improve access to nutritious produce.

HOUSE PASSES TWO NEW RESOLUTIONS IN SUPPORT OF ISRAEL

This week, I was proud to support two resolutions in support of Israel. One called on Hamas to immediately release all hostages, and the other reaffirmed the state of Israel’s right to exist.

I’m encouraged by the temporary ceasefire that’s been taking place over the past several days. However, Hamas terrorists committed an appalling war crime by taking innocent civilians hostage – including elderly Israelis and children as young as four years old. It’s reprehensible that Hamas continues using them as bargaining chips instead of releasing them immediately. I’ll continue to support Israel, its right to self-defense, and its right to exist.

TELE-TOWN HALL THIS COMING WEDNESDAY

I’ll be holding my next tele-town hall on Wednesday, December 6! To join, all you have to do is dial the number below and stay on the line to be connected at 5:30 p.m. PT.

We’ve had thousands of Oregonians join each of these town halls, and I always enjoy having this opportunity to update you on my work and answer your questions. I hope you will consider participating!

YEAR IN REVIEW: INTRODUCING BIPARTISAN LEGISLATION TO ADDRESS HOMELESSNESS

In my newsletters this month, I’ll be highlighting some legislative milestones from the past year. I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in these last 11 months, and we’re just getting started!

This fall, I authored and introduced bipartisan legislation to address homelessness in Oregon: the DIRECT Care for the Homeless Act. It has broad support from community organizations and street medicine professionals, and I'll continue working to build more support to move this bill forward. ONE MORE THING!

Ahead of tonight’s Pac-12 championship game, I made a fun deal with my friend and colleague from across the river, Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. I'm feeling pretty confident that Oregon's going to pull off the win – go Ducks!
