El Paso. Dayton. Gilroy.
Three mass shootings in a little over a week. I don't know how many more times America has to wake up to stories of killings in schools, places of worship, movie theaters, bars, Walmarts... the list is endless.
Sadly, this is normal in our America, and it's heartbreaking every single time it happens. But that's the problem.
Weapons of war are being used to take innocent lives and the inaction from Washington is a moral failure — especially when the vast majority of Americans, including gun owners like myself, are demanding Congress finally confront gun violence like the public health crisis it is.
I won't mince words with you: this is an epidemic and every day we fail to act means more lives are lost. We must do something.
We know what the solutions are. From expanding background checks to banning high-capacity magazines to funding research — the American people support what is on the table.
But Mitch McConnell is too deep in the gun lobby's pocket to move forward with any of it. He's going so far as to actively block legislation to prevent this sort of carnage from happening again. It's shameful.
If all Washington does is agree to disagree, then we have failed to provide the kind of leadership people are demanding to reduce gun violence. Too many politicians simply lack the courage to act. But not me.
Every day, communities across the country face heartbreaking losses due to gun violence. We have a moral responsibility in Congress to step up, work together, and address this epidemic. Thoughts and prayers are not enough. It's time to act.
Thank you, as always, for fighting for what's right.
