John— this Tanner from the team at SEEC PAC. I wanted to share an environmental update with you:
Since the U.S. Coast Guard first reported spotting the leak on November 17, an estimated 1.1 million gallons of crude oil has spilled into the Gulf of Mexico near South Pass, Louisiana.
Officials have yet to be able to trace the leak's exact source, and environmental experts are worried the spill will affect the local endangered species. We’ve seen this before: Big Oil rigs and pipelines fall into disrepair, and local wildlife faces the consequences.
Just north of the spill, the most endangered sea turtle species in the world (the Kemp’s Ridley turtle) was spotted hatching for the first time in three-quarters of a century last year. The gulf is also home to several of the world’s most endangered species of whales.
We can’t let these species be threatened by Big Oil’s reckless actions.
Thank you for your dedication to protecting our planet,
Tanner,

Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. You can click here to only get our most important messages, or you can unsubscribe.
