Hi John,

I’m Molly, a 16-year-old Sunrise organizer in Boulder, CO and my hub just won the first Green New Deal for Schools Resolution in the nation!!

Boulder School District passes the first Green New Deal for Schools Resolution

After nine months of relentless campaigning, our school district in Boulder unanimously passed the Green New Deal for Schools Resolution. This resolution is a big step forward, committing to carbon neutrality by 2050, integrating climate change into the curriculum, providing pathways to green jobs, and much more. It also calls on the state for climate action in schools and urges Congress and President Biden to pass the Green New Deal for Public Schools Act.

This win wasn't just mine; it was a collective effort fueled by passionate students who believed in winning an education that prepares us for the reality of living in a world that’s in the middle of a climate crisis. At first, we faced resistance, but we kept showing up. We spoke at eight board meetings, and those meetings helped us build a powerful movement within our school. Together, we gathered over 1,300 signatures, organized impactful events, and got our resolution on the Board’s agenda. More than sixty students and community members filled the room in support during the vote, embodying the strength of our united front.

When it came to the vote for the resolution, I held my sister’s hand while every single board member said “yes” into their microphone. The secretary announced that the motion had passed, and the room erupted into cheers.

While we celebrate this victory, our eyes are set on the broader mission. Our school district is just the beginning. My hub, alongside the incredible students who stood with me, is gearing up to lead a training in Denver for districts across Colorado, to expand our fight for the Green New Deal for Schools.

But we can’t do this alone. In order to host training and build organizing power in school districts across the country, we need your support — can you make a contribution today of any amount to help us win a GND for all schools?

I'm excited about the journey ahead, fueled by the incredible power of young people working together for the future we deserve. Our commitment is unwavering, and we won't rest until we’ve transformed every school in our country.

Cheers,
Molly
