Happy Thursday!

** CORONA VIRUS UPDATE
------------------------------------------------------------
** The Corona virus is a serious health risk to our community, our State, and our nation. As a result, and in line with decisions made by the Florida Democratic Party and fellow DECs in the State, I am asking that members please curtail meeting in our Headquarters office space until further notice. We need to minimize the traffic in our office for the health and welfare of our fellow Democrats. If you have to come to the office, please coordinate with Stacey. This is a work in progress. We are figuring out how best to proceed as the days go by so please be patient with us.
We must be prudent in the days and months ahead. I will look into how we can hold our meetings electronically. Please be on the lookout for emails about the DEC meeting currently scheduled for Thursday, March 19th.
See the latest official information on COVID-19 cases in Florida here ([link removed]) .
Stay well!
Due to health concerns the weekly Koffee with Ken and Parris on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. is CANCELED indefinitely.
As mentioned above, all meetings held at our offices are CANCELED indefinitely. If you do need to come to our office, please call to make an appointment. If you have questions, please call Stacey at 772.226.5267

** DWC LUNCHEON
------------------------------------------------------------
**
A note from Silvia Cancio, DWC President:
We look forward to seeing you every second Saturday of the month and appreciate your participation and support.
During the last few months we have experienced a number of no-shows at the luncheons. This results in a financial loss to the DWC and extra work on the part of our planners. In order to give us and the venue ample time to plan and process your lunch requests, we ask you that you observe the reservation deadline and cancel your reservation at least three days prior to the lunch if you are unable to attend. Hopefully, this will eliminate unnecessary work and facilitate the job of those who plan the event.
We ask your cooperation in observing the reservation deadline and cancellation process. In the absence of a cancellation we will be billing you for the cost of the lunch.
Thank you so much for your cooperation.

** WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE OFFICE?
------------------------------------------------------------
**
This week we attended the Taxpayers’ Association luncheon to hear from the Sheriff’s Candidates. There were many good ideas and plans from the candidates on how to create a safer Indian River County and a stronger, responsive Sheriff’s office.
The Precinct Action Committee (formerly Precinct Taskforce) is meeting weekly now to ensure our precinct captains are supported and successful. This week we discussed phone banking, canvassing, mailings and other ways to reach voters. It will take a team of volunteers to do all of this and we need all the help we can get!
The office has been busy greeting visitors, signing up volunteers and sanitizing our office. We do ask that if you are feeling sick or have done any traveling lately to please be mindful and call the office instead of visiting.

** FYDIR 1^ST ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET - CANCELED

**
The Young Democrats of Indian River have canceled their Awards Banquet. If you bought tickets and would like a refund, please email

** HELP NEEDED – DATA TEAM
------------------------------------------------------------
**
As our Precinct Captains and volunteers go knocking on doors to register Democrats to Vote By Mail, they are collecting data. This data then needs to be inputted into our database. Which means, we need help! Our Data Team is looking for volunteers who have experience or enjoy entering data to help out 2-4 hours a week. This is a job that can be done at home after training. If you are interested, please contact Jim St. Martin at

VOTING STATISTICS FROM THE FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY
------------------------------------------------------------
**
Florida now has more than 5.1 million active registered Democrats! Florida Democrats have exceeded the 5,000,000 active registered Democrats mark for the first time in our state's history. We now have 37% of Florida's registered voters and a 280,000 voter registration edge over Republicans, 17,000 larger than our edge in 2018. This is the first time since 2012 we have increased our margin of Democrats over the previous election cycle.
We are now registering an average of 482 voters each day, compared to just 28 voters per day last June, and our average is increasing each month. Since January 1, the GOP has added 64,935 voters and we have added 118,770! We are seeing a diverse young group of voters joining Florida's electorate. Over half of the voters we have registered are under 35. More than a third are African American and Caribbean, and 25% are Hispanic. We are taking no one for granted and are proud of our work to engage everyone.
