I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by friends, family, and loved ones. After a short but sweet week in Rochester, I’m now back in Washington to continue my work delivering the resources and results our community—and our country—deserve. Read more below.

Defending Voters' Rights

Rep. Morelle meets with President Margaret Huang of the Southern Poverty Law Center

This week, I spent time with Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) President Margaret Huang to discuss our mutual commitment to safeguarding voters’ rights and combatting radicalization across the country. As the top Democrat on the Committee on House Administration, I’m leading the charge in Congress to protect the sacred right to vote, and groups like the SPLC are instrumental to this fight.

Their work combatting the continued attacks from extremists who seek to restrict ballot access and undermine faith in our elections is truly inspiring, and I’m looking forward to our continued collaboration on these important issues. Thank you, Margaret, for stopping by!

Keeping Our Neighborhoods Safe

Rep. Morelle meets with Director Dettelbach of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosive (ATF)

On Wednesday, I met Director Dettelbach of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and got an update on their work to reduce the horrific gun violence we see far too often in our community. Sadly, this epidemic continues to inflict deep and scarring trauma on far too many communities across the country—and without immediate action, this heartbreaking trend will only continue.

I strongly believe the best way to combat gun violence is through increased cooperation across all levels of law enforcement—and I’m consistently using my position in Congress to advocate for common-sense policies to do just that.

As a member of the House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science, I’m going to continue to advocate for increased funding for the ATF and other Department of Justice agencies so they can continue their work combatting gun trafficking, track down “ghost guns” and other untraceable firearms, and keep our community safe from gun violence.

Investing in Our Community

Rep. Morelle speaks at a ribbon cutting for the Brighton Winter Farmers Market

Last Sunday, I was glad to join Brighton Town Supervisor Bill Moehle, my partners in government, and members of our community to help cut the ribbon on the Brighton Winter Farmers Market’s new facility! I proudly secured $500,000 for this project when I was serving in the State Assembly, and it was great to finally be able to see this project to completion.

Whether it was during my time in Albany or now in the halls of Congress, my commitment to supporting and investing in community assets like the farmers market has always been the same. When we secure the resources needed to get projects like this over the finish line, we breathe new life into our neighborhoods and enhance the quality of life of every individual and family.

I’m grateful to Supervisor Moehle and everyone on the Town of Brighton team for their dedication to seeing this project through, and I cannot wait to visit again and see the market open at full force!
