IN THE DISTRICT I was proud to announce a $3 million federal grant for the city to rehabilitate a storage facility that holds valuable parts for the Staten Island Ferry. From securing critical funds to modernize our ferry fleet, to advocating for a new contract for our ferry workers, to delivering a grant for this storage facility, I will continue to keep my commitment to improve the service reliability of our ferry system. I urge Senator Schumer and the Senate to pass my bill and our other border security bill as swiftly as possible so we can put an end to this unsustainable migrant crisis once and for all. This organization is critically important to our community as they serve young children all the way to our our elderly, and this funding will allow them to continue their aquatics programming and lifeguard training classes. I joined State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in breaking ground on the remediation of the Staten Island Warehouse site, located in the Port Richmond section of Staten Island's North Shore. This project entails the excavation of contaminated soils, disposal at a landfill designed for the hazardous materials and full restoration of the site which was once used as part of our nation's early atomic weapons program. READ MORE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL READ MORE It is unconscionable that New York Governor Hochul, Mayor Adams and their political appointees would give a Congestion Pricing Toll discount to New Jersey’s commuters and not their own residents, specifically Staten Islanders who already pay a toll to access the rest of the city. I will continue to join a bipartisan group in using every legal and legislative tool possible to stop this cash grab, including supporting Governor Murphy's lawsuit and working my legislative language to prevent congestion pricing from ever coming to fruition through Congress. WATCH IN THE NEWS East Shore Seawall price tag tops $2 billion, but feds ready to move forward A long-awaited Staten Island resiliency project recently got a new eye-popping price tag, but the federal agency tasked with its construction is finally ready to move forward. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced the over $2 billion cost of the South Shore of Staten Island Coastal Storm Risk Management Project, commonly called the East Shore Seawall, in a validation report released earlier this month. With the federal government covering the overwhelming majority of that cost, the project represents one of the largest federal infrastructure investments in the Island’s history, and Rep. Nicole Malliotakis said she’s ready for things to move forward. The Democrats are defunding the police, but they’re not calling it that.” And Adams brought the issue on himself by insisting that migrants deserve taxpayer-funded benefits.
