Dear Friends,
It's census time!
Today is the first day that the online Census self-response applications can be voluntarily filled out. Please take a moment to fill it out, as so many public benefits are at stake for New Yorkers as a direct result of us completing the Census. That's why MCN is part of several coalitions to ensure that our communities are informed about the Census and are able to fill it out.
To learn more about the why the Census is particularly important for the Muslim community, check out this excellent op-ed by Ahsia Badi, Emgage Census Director, on what's at stake for us. Read here.
If you'd like to learn more and are interested in volunteering with us to help get out the #MuslimsCount2020, please contact our Census Captain, Mr. Ali Kaba at [email protected].
HAVE YOU BEEN A VICTIM OF HATE?
In addition to the Census, MCN is also engaged in researching how Muslims are affected by hate crimes in our city. It's critical to ensure that we hear from you if you feel that you've been a victim or a witness to a hate crime in our community. Already, we're learning so much from the surveys we've received on how important language access to elections are in order to curb hate in the community and that our youth, in particular, are facing a large brunt of the hate in schools.
Please take a moment to fill out the survey today, and feel free to contact our Civic Education and Advocacy Program Coordinator, Saad, with any questions:
