This week in Congress... Washington D.C. - Before returning to D.C., I had the honor of tossing the coin for the 6A Division II Region I semifinals game between two amazing Texas-24 schools: Highland Park High School and Southlake Carroll High School. Congratulations to Southlake Carroll on your win and good luck at your playoff game tomorrow! On Monday, I met with Robin, a North Texan who works with Plexus Worldwide. We discussed regulatory issues as well as the importance of consumer protections. Later, I had the privilege of presenting Lucas Boling the Congressional Award's Silver Medal - which recognizes initiative, service, and achievement in our youth. Lucas is a student at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas and he earned this award for completing 200 hours of community service. Congratulations Lucas! On Wednesday, I voted to demand Hamas release the remainder of the hostages they abducted on October 7th. I was glad to co-sponsor this resolution and will always stand firm in support of our ally Israel and against the evils of Hamas. I also spoke on the House Floor to show my strong support for the Protecting Our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act, which blocks the President from using public lands and national parks to house unvetted illegal immigrants. You can read more about this legislation below in the Texas-24 Work of the Week section. Then, I joined my Ways and Means colleagues for a hearing to ensure states and tribes have the tools they need for effective child support enforcement. We're working to push back against harmful policy proposals from the IRS, including this effort that would put millions of families at risk who rely on resources provided by the Child Support Enforcement Program. You can watch my line of questioning by clicking on the image below. Later that night, I spoke on the House Floor about the urgent need to impeach Secretary Mayorkas. Mayorkas has no regard for the rule of law or securing our border, and our border will remain vulnerable for as long as he remains in office. I'm working to bring accountability and keep Americans safe. On Thursday, I joined my Ways and Means colleagues to advance legislation that will remove the tax-exempt status of organizations that finance violence around the globe. Later, I voted to impose sanctions that prevent Iran from accessing billions of dollars that they will use to fund terror. Although President Biden and his Administration made the reckless decision to unfreeze $6 billion in Iranian assets, I'm working with my Republican colleagues to ensure the U.S. does not empower Iran to sponsor terror. Earlier today, I voted to protect small businesses and help expand their access to credit by rescinding a burdensome new rule from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Small businesses are the heartbeat of our economy and I will always work to cut bureaucratic red tape that hinders opportunities for their success. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, I voted to protect our communities from President Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas’ disastrous policies. This bill would block the use of federal funds to house unvetted illegal migrants on our beloved parks. I’m working with my House Republican colleagues to keep Americans safe. Texas-24 Hometown Hero When a student-athlete collapsed on the court before a basketball game, Dallas Fire-Rescue Captain Kenneth Zacharie sprung into action and worked with others to save the young athlete’s life. I’d like to thank Kenneth for his incredible work, both on and off duty!
