Last summer, Trump tried to add a citizenship question to the
2020 Census, making it a political issue instead of what it is —
a headcount of everyone in America. It’s important that he isn’t
allowed to interfere.

The census is vital because it determines how much money each
community gets to support families, schools, roads, public
transportation, congressional representation, and more. Who
responds to the census will affect life in New York for the next
ten years.

You’ve probably heard a lot about the 2020 Census. I want you to
know the truth. Here are some common misconceptions about the
census:

1. You have to be a citizen —> You don’t. There isn’t a
citizenship question.
2. If you give your personal information, it will be released —>
Everything you report is confidential and can’t be turned over to
any other government agency.
3. If you don’t respond, it doesn’t matter —> It does, every
person matters for an accurate headcount and distribution of
federal money.
4. You don’t gain anything from the census —> You do, the amount
of congressional representatives New York gets is based off of
your community’s answers.

These are just a few of the lies that have been spread about the
2020 Census in the past few months. Knowing the truth and
participating in the census will help keep the Trump
administration honest. Adding your name shows the administration
their lies aren’t working.
