Republicans in Congress are threatening to slash vital social programs like Medicare or Social Security to pay down the nation’s ballooning debt.

But here’s the truth: our nation’s debt is in large part a consequence of tax cuts by Reagan, Bush, and Trump, as well as Bush’s obscene spending on overseas wars. We don’t need a fiscal commission to study our debt, we need to end tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and make a moonshot investment in American industry.

I represent a district in the heart of Silicon Valley with arguably more billionaires than any other district in the country. I keep saying we need to tax billionaires and they keep sending me back.
