When you look at the numbers, it's pretty obvious why Republicans have had such an easy time holding tight to state legislatures and local governments across the country: About half of all races in 2018 were uncontested, including 68% of races at the county level, and in 2016, 40% (!!) of state legislative races were uncontested.
It's tough to elect a progressive when there's not one on the ballot. But if you give voters a candidate to get excited about, you might be surprised at what happens -- at least, that's what we've seen so far.
