Republicans Go After Tuberville Again
- Three weeks ago, a group of Senate Republicans went to the floor to fight against Sen. Tommy Tuberville and his righteous stand against the Department of Defense’s illegal abortion policies.
- Just recently, they tried to do it again by using parliamentary tactics to skirt the Senate’s rules and advance senior military promotions while also advancing the Biden administration’s abortion agenda. But this time, Sen. Tuberville had the backing of Sen. Mike Lee of Utah.
- Sen. Lee went on to remind his colleagues of what he called “bedrock principles of our system of government.”
- By standing with Sen. Tuberville and defending the cause of life, Lee has once again reminded us that for those who prioritize the issue of life there are at least two champions in the Senate.

Counterpoint: Supreme Court Shows Its Integrity With New Code of Ethics
- Be wary of the current campaign to exert control over the Supreme Court by creating a fake “ethics crisis” and smearing justices whose decisions may not reliably advance specific political interests. On November 13, the court announced the adoption of its own code of conduct, a positive step unlikely to satisfy the critics.
- This campaign knows its primary narrative, that the Supreme Court has no ethical rules, is false. The Ethics in Government Act governs financial disclosures and applies to all federal judges and Supreme Court justices.
- Another federal statute, which also applies to the justices, sets standards for when they should not participate in a particular case assigned to them. The Supreme Court has publicly committed to follow the Code of Conduct for US Judges, which formally applies to lower court judges, and has done so for decades.
- The fact that the critics are complaining just shows that the integrity of the Supreme Court was never their goal in the first place.

How Inflation Changes Our Spending Habits
- Inflation has left millions of Americans with no good choices, even when it comes to necessities like what to eat. More Americans are eating chicken, as alternatives to beef and pork, which have sadly become unaffordable for millions whose budgets have been ravaged by inflation.
- But the large shift in consumers’ buying habits can cause some inflation metrics to grossly understate the cost increases faced by Americans. The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) has a price index for personal consumption expenditures. It measures the price changes of things that consumers are actually buying, as opposed to a fixed basket of goods and services.
- This methodology can be beneficial, especially since it observes what people are buying today, not what they bought previously, but it can underestimate inflation.
- As long as the federal budget increases, the family budget must decrease. That fact should be front and center as Congress debates over appropriations. The politicians need to realize that every dollar they spend is taking food off a family’s table, one way or another.
