Welcome to our November wrap-up newsletter, It has been a busy month here in Washington, D.C. If you would like to stay updated on what I'm doing each week, I encourage you to check out my Facebook and Twitter! If you need help with a federal agency, such as the VA, IRS, or Social Security, please call my office at the numbers listed below so we can get to work on your behalf! | Rep. Barry Moore Member of Congress | This past month, I co-sponsored the Sgt. Steve Owen Defending Our Defenders Act introduced by Rep. Mike Garcia's (CA-27). This bill aims to protect our law enforcement officers by making the murder of a state or local officer a federal felony punishable by life in prison or even the death penalty. Our law enforcement officers stand for law and order in our communities, and we support them. | Introducing legislation to enhance SNAP fraud detection | Earlier this month I introduced legislation to strengthen Congressional oversight of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service. USDA is proposing a new rule to administratively codify phone interviews as the primary method of identity verification when auditing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit recipients for fraud – they’re attempting to remove the “human” from human services. | Protecting our greatest ally in the middle east | This month, I voted in favor of and cosponsored 6 H.R. 6126, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. This legislation grants $14.3 billion in emergency supplemental appropriations, which are fully offset, to provide military assistance to our great ally Israel and to ensure the safe return of American citizens affected by Hamas attacks on Israel. Instead of taking more money from Americans' bank accounts, this legislation cuts $14 billion in reckless funding to provide Israel with the ability to defend itself. | Challenging the EPA's electric vehicle mandate | Last week, I co-signed Congresswoman Lisa McClain's (MI-09) letter challenging the EPA's new rule that would force a rapid shift to electric vehicles. This mandate risks limiting consumer choice and making cars more expensive, while increasing our reliance on China for battery materials. We've urged the inclusion of an amendment to block funding for this rule. It's essential to protect American consumers' freedom to choose their vehicles and ensure our policies reflect a practical balance between environmental goals and economic realities. | Legislative update with Farm Credit | Last week, I was able to meet with several associations of the Farm Credit system to provide them a legislative update and discuss how we can best serve Alabama's producers and rural communities! | Defending free speech on college campuses | I participated in a House Judiciary Committee GOP hearing earlier this month to discuss the importance of free speech on college campuses and heard the concerns of students affected by the threatening rhetoric of activist groups on their campus. At universities across our country, conservative speech that offends other students is silenced, yet threats of physical violence are allowed. | Condemning support for terrorist organizations on college campuses | Earlier this month, I voted in favor of H.Res.798, a resolution condemning the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations on college campuses. The atrocities committed by Hamas against Israel have exposed the deep rot of antisemitism on American college campuses and we need to protect Jewish students, faculty, and staff at American universities. | Alabama's second congressional district photo contest | So many of you have shared beautiful photos of landmarks, landscapes, and people across our district with me over the years. I want you to have the chance to share those photos with everyone! My office is holding an AL-02 photo contest. Every couple of weeks, we will ask for photos from a county in the Second District to be shared with us via email at [email protected].
