Dear John,
Please join us in congratulating Shameca Collins on her win in the District Attorney primary in Mississippi's 6th District!
First, we want to say thank you to everyone who got out and voted for Shameca Collins, and spread the word about the importance of showing up in this election.
Collins is committed to changing things for the people in her district because they are her own people. As a native of Natchez, she's seen the ways mass incarceration has devastated her community. But because of people like you, she now has the opportunity to create a new future, and to change the meaning of "criminal justice" in Mississippi's 6th District, including:
✅ Offering alternatives for non-violent offenders to keep people out of jails, and provide opportunities for people to make amends for their mistakes
✅ Providing more resources for people suffering from addiction to heal, instead of throwing them behind bars
✅ Keeping a list of police officers and sheriffs not trustworthy enough to testify, to reduce the influence of corrupt police on convictions
There’s still work to do to make sure Shameca is elected in the November 5th general election. And this win is an important piece of our ongoing work with other organizations, advocates and everyday people to elect prosecutors who care about Black and brown people and to hold these officials accountable to the communities they serve.
We’re going to continue to take on elections like this to elect candidates who are accountable to Black communities through 2019 and beyond.
So if you’re feeling inspired by this win, imagine all the other wins you could be a part of making a reality by making a monthly donation to Color Of Change PAC. Having monthly supporters gives us the resources we need to plan long-term and support more amazing candidates across the country.
If you can’t make a monthly donation, you can make become a one-time supporter here.
Thank you for everything you do to win a more just world for Black people.
Until justice is real,
Arisha, Jenni, Charles, Reagan, Daniel, Tammi, Scott and the Color Of Change PAC team
