As a member of Maine Conservation Voters, you know that holding our elected officials accountable to their votes is a critical piece of protecting Maine's environment—that's why we've been producing our Environmental Scorecard for over two decades.
If you've been wondering how Maine's congressional delegation in Washington stacks up on national conservation issues, then check out the League of Conservation Voters' just-released 2019 National Environmental Scorecard. LCV tallied the most critical environmental votes in Congress from the last year so you can know exactly how your legislators voted on issues that impact our communities and environment.
Here's how Maine's delegation scored on votes to protect our health, air, and water:
Senator Collins’ score: 64%
Senator King's score: 93%
Representative Pingree's score: 97%
Representative Golden's score: 97%
We were so excited to see that Senator Angus King, Representative Chellie Pingree, and Representative Jared Golden led the fight to ensure that Maine people’s health and environment were put first in Congress. Say thank you to them now for their conservation leadership >>
As 2019 was the second hottest year on record, the stakes for our environment and our health have never been higher. But that didn’t seem to matter one bit to anti-environment “leaders” in Congress. Senator McConnell refused to act on hundreds of important House-passed bills, including many pro-environment measures found in the 2019 National Environmental Scorecard.

-
In the Senate, LCV scored 14 votes that were largely efforts to confirm radical nominees to the federal judiciary and the executive branch.
-
In the House, LCV scored 29 environmental votes to clean up toxic PFAS chemical contamination, protect our public lands, and block the Trump administration from rolling back environmental safeguards.
You’ll see that, despite the challenges, our environmental champions in Congress held their ground and fought back every step of the way to protect our fundamental rights to clean air and safe drinking water.
The first step to getting more pro-environment policies passed is letting your members of Congress know that you’re paying attention. Thank you for taking time today to read LCV's Scorecard. We hope you will take note of the delegation members who championed our environment and express gratitude. Those who did not do so need to hear from you too. Your accountability will ensure that policymakers know the importance of clean air, water and land to Mainers and our way of life.
Thanks,
