Dear John,

Recent News

I hope everyone had a restful Thanksgiving with their family and friends! As we move into the holiday season, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you in District 6 for all that you do for your communities and your continued support. Without you, I would not be able to do what I do and serve this great district!

D.C. Update

November was a busy month in Washington. House Republicans prevented a government shutdown, and we passed some meaningful legislation. Below is a snapshot of some bills, but I want to remind everyone that my voting record is on my website, and if you have questions about any piece of legislation, please reach out to my office.

  • H. Res. 798 – Condemning the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations at institutions of higher education, which may lead to the creation of a hostile environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff, as amended.
  • H.R. 359 – Fort San Geronimo Preservation Act. Designates Fort San Gerónimo del Boquerón in Puerto Rico as an affiliated area of the National Park System to be managed by the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. The bill would authorize the National Park Service (NPS) to provide technical and financial assistance to the Institute to assist with marketing, interpretation, and preservation efforts.
  • H.R. 1105 – Debbie Smith Act of 2023, as amended. This program provides support to law enforcement and crime labs in all 50 states to analyze untested rape and sexual assault kits, improve law enforcement’s timely collection of DNA evidence, and enhance prosecutors' capacity to bring this evidence to trial.

I also cosponsored several important pieces of legislation:

  • H.R. 6126, Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024
  • H.R. 6176, To prohibit Federal funding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
  • H.R. 6330, To direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to carry out a pilot program to collect and analyze data regarding suicides and attempted suicides by veterans on the property of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and for other purposes.
  • H.Res. 865, Honoring the heroic military service, sacrifices, and contributions of veterans from the great State of Texas.

District Update

This month, my office had the privilege of hosting our annual Military Academy Day, a day vital to our military's success. Military Academy Day involves nominating young men and women for admission to our nation's esteemed Service Academies. Each year, these dedicated students approach the opportunity with a strong sense of service, undergoing interviews for a chance to attend institutions like USMA, USAFA, USNA, and the USMMA. The event was truly inspiring. The level of dedication from our young folks is remarkable. I eagerly anticipate discovering which of these exceptional candidates will attend one of our Military Academies.

Additionally, I was honored to participate in the Palestine Veteran Breakfast, a heartfelt gathering to pay tribute to our veterans. During the event, I had the privilege of meeting with fellow veterans, swapping some stories about our time in the service, and expressing my gratitude for their invaluable service to our country.

Before Thanksgiving with my family, I went to Waxahachie Care to help distribute turkeys and holiday meals to those in need in Ellis County. I am grateful to Director Holman, the Waxahachie Care staff, and volunteers for their service to the community on the holidays and throughout the year. Throughout the afternoon, I had the opportunity to interact with numerous individuals, learning about their experiences as we loaded food into their cars. It was heartening to witness the strong sense of community in our area, where neighbors actively support one another. Across our district, I have seen countless acts of kindness carried out by individuals, organizations, churches, and schools. I want to express my appreciation to everyone involved for their generosity and dedication to serving others.

Prayer Request

The Texas Baptist Home for Children is a Christ-centered foster care and adoption agency that cares for hundreds of children in need of healing. This month they celebrated 500 adoptions.  As I and our congressional team travel across the district meeting with constituents – we often ask for their prayer requests.  The TBHC asked us to please pray for more good families to be willing to serve as foster parents. I pass this prayer request on to you.
