I’m proud to announce I have introduced new and upcoming bills to the Pennsylvania House that aim to tackle the housing crisis the Commonwealth is facing. Access to Affordable housing, supportive housing, and permanent housing remains out of reach for many Pennsylvanians, often impacting children, veterans, disabled individuals, and those with chronic health issues the most.
H.R. 229 – Supportive Housing Study will direct the Joint State Government Commission (JSGC) to study the availability and demand for both temporary and permanent supportive housing in need and report its findings to the General Assembly.
H.R. 230 – Examining “Housing First” Policies to Support Unhoused Pennsylvanians tasks the JSGC to explore “Housing First” policies as a less-expensive and more-successful alternative to the traditional shelter system.
H.B. 1774 – Assessing the Affordable Housing Development Potential of Surplus State-Owned Property will require state agencies to collaborate with the PA Department of Community and Economic Development to assess the affordable housing development potential of their surplus properties.
Real Estate Transfer Tax Deduction for Affordable Housing would incentivize selling homes at affordable prices with an income tax deduction that applies to both the buyer and seller in equal amounts and ease the burden of lower-income buyers with a similar deduction if they collection Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Incentives to Build Affordable Homes would create a low-interest loan program to incentivize builders to construct new homes for sale at an affordable price for low- and moderate-income individuals and families.
As always, I will keep you updated on the progress of these bills as they move throughout the PA House.
