Dear Neighbor,

Earlier this year, I sat down with ABC 10 News for their series called “The Cost of Care.” This week-long feature focuses on the millions of Americans across the country working as family caregivers for loved ones with Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s disease is personal for me. As the daughter of two parents diagnosed with the disease, I understand how devastating it is to be slowly robbed of those you love the most. I also know the sacrifices family caregivers make every day.

I have personally lived through the emotional and financial challenges of Alzheimer’s, and that is why I have dedicated so much of my time in Washington to addressing this terrible disease.

I’ve introduced legislation in Congress that will help families affected by Alzheimer's and their caregivers. My bill, the Credit for Caring Act, would help lower the burden on family caregivers by providing a tax credit for services they provide like home care and adult day care.

And my bill, the CHANGE Act, would streamline early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive diseases to provide critical support for older Americans and their families.

With as many as 13.8 million Americans ages 65 and older expected to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s by 2060, there is no time to wait. We must pass legislation that will help address this important issue.

A principio de este año, me senté con ABC 10 News para su serie llamada “The Cost of Care”. Este artículo de una semana se centra en los millones de estadounidenses que trabajan como cuidadores familiares de seres queridos con Alzheimer.

La enfermedad de Alzheimer es personal para mí. Como la hija de dos padres diagnosticados con la enfermedad, yo sé que triste es perder a tus seres queridos poco a poco. También entiendo los sacrificios que los cuidadores familiares hacen todos los días.

Yo personalmente he vivido por los desafíos emocionales y financieros de Alzheimer y por eso he dedicado tanto de mi tiempo en Washington hablando sobre esta horrible enfermedad.

He presentado legislación en el Congreso que ayudará a las familias afectadas por la enfermedad y a sus cuidadores.
