Paid Sick Leave Doesn’t Cure Coronavirus

What to Know: Some are using the coronavirus to advocate for mandatory paid sick leave laws.

The TPPF Take: It’s wrong to use a public health emergency to push unconstitutional policies.

"While there is legitimate worry, businesses have been responding to address public concerns without the overreaching hand of government, and there is no empirical evidence that this policy would have a public health impact," says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. "It’s an emotional argument aimed to create fear in support of taking away the rights of employers and employees."

Not On My Dime

What to Know: Using tax dollars to fund lobbyists is becoming an issue in some Texas runoff elections.

The TPPF Take: Taxpayers’ money shouldn’t be used to lobby against their interests.

“Government—especially local governments in Texas—has no business handing millions of taxpayer dollars over to lobbyists,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “Those are critical funds that should be used for education, public safety, property tax relief or other priorities that benefit taxpayers directly. It is time to end taxpayer-funded lobbying in Texas.”

Breaking Rocks in the Hot Sun

What to Know: A fracking ban would be a costly disservice to every American family—and to the environment, an expert says.

The TPPF Take: Fracking is responsible for our current boom in energy and economic activity.

“Unemployment is the lowest it has been in decades, and it could go even lower,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “Wages are rising, and consumer confidence is sky-high. Energy is driving all of those indicators. Cheap, abundant, reliable energy is fueling our prosperity. A ban on fracking would bring all of that to a halt.”
