The majority of Americans―nearly 70%―support a ceasefire. However, the U.S. House voted to send billions of dollars in unconditional aid to the Israeli government to continue the killing of Palestinian civilians.

As the fragile, temporary ceasefire holds for the moment, we need even more people of all backgrounds speaking out in support of Palestinian rights and humanity. That’s why, this week, I was proud to stand alongside activists and elected officials who are now in the fourth day of a hunger strike in front of the White House.

Among the state representatives striking to demand President Biden support an immediate and permanent ceasefire are Delaware State Representative Madinah Wilson-Anton―the first Muslim state representative in Delaware―and New York State Assemblymember Zohran Kwame Mamdani.

Both Madinah and Zohran are taking a courageous stand to bring attention to the suffering of Palestinians who have been without clean water, food, shelter, and medical supplies. More than 14,000―the majority women and children―have already been killed by the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza.
