Wayne Winegarden, a senior fellow at the Pacific Research Institute, said the governor is right to focus on encampments. But Winegarden, whose free-market think tank has criticized the state’s homelessness policies, said he believes its requirement that projects take a “Housing First” approach will undermine the program. Housing First is a strategy used by the state that calls for connecting unhoused residents with a permanent home as quickly as possible and removing housing barriers such as the requirement that individuals maintain sobriety.

Doctors lobbying for Medicare for All should be careful what they wish for

A group of New England doctors pressed the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates this month to drop the organization’s opposition to single-payer health care.
The effort ultimately failed (for now). And good thing.
Such a system would be disastrous for physicians — and patients.

California - It's No Place for the Old

Buried near the end of the 2022 Crime in California from the state Attorney General’s office are the statistics for violent crimes committed against senior citizens.
The news is not good. In 2022, there were 16,575 senior victims of felonious violent crimes (234 of which were homicides), 348 were rapes, 4,868 were robberies, and a whopping 11,125 were aggravated assaults.
