Hey John, it's Tekesha. Since you've placed so much trust in me by joining this people-powered movement, I'd like to be vulnerable with you.
Growing up in foster care and becoming a mother as a teenager means my own relationship with money is complicated.
At the start of my campaign, the thought of asking strangers to chip in even $1 was paralyzing. But I knew for someone like me to get elected, that's what it was going to take.
Here's the ugly truth of politics: Being considered a "viable" candidate requires proving you have the money to win. My track record as Mayor, my vision for the future....
none of that matters if I don't hit my fundraising goals.
And hitting goals is a whole lot easier when you have a wealthy network. That's why so few elected officials are actually REPRESENTATIVE of the community they serve.
Now, (despite all odds and thanks to an overwhelming 9,000+ folks like you) I'm on the cusp of proving we have the grassroots power to win.
But time is running out, and we're still $8,792 short of our critical End-of-Month goal. To come this close and fall short would be devastating.
Can I count on you to give even just a few dollars to help close the gap before midnight? >>
Forever grateful.
