John, It's almost National Out to Win Day 2020! How will you celebrate? We hope you choose to run for public office! Learn more about National Out to Win Day and pledge to run here. Not sure? Take the pledge today and as April 2 approaches, we'll send you more information, including testimonials from current LGBTQ elected officials about their experiences, how to raise money, organize your field program and more! We hold National Out to Win Day on April 2 because it is the anniversary of Kathy Kozachenko’s historic election to the Ann Arbor City Council back in 1974. Kathy made history as the first openly LGBTQ person elected in American history. To honor this achievement, we want to mobilize and motivate LGBTQ people to making the same choice Kathy did and pledge to run for office. Here's why we need you to step up: right now there are 855 openly LGBTQ elected officials in the entire nation – only 0.17% of elected officials nationwide! That means we need to elect 22,529 more to achieve equitable representation in government. That’s a big number, John and why we need you! We know LGBTQ elected officials humanize our lives, change legislative debates and secure more inclusive legislation. But we need your help to get more of us in elected office! Take one minute or less to pledge to consider a run for office or tell another LGBTQ person in your life to do so! We won't achieve equal representation without you! Pledge to run for office and learn more about National Out to Win Day here. And don't forget to spread the word! LGBTQ Victory Institute |
