GOP rep warns special counsel Jack Smith "days are numbered"
Republican Rep. and far-right fringe fanboy Clay Higgins made a not-so-veiled threat against special counsel Jack Smith on Wednesday during a softball interview on Newsmax. "So, I’ll just say that his days are numbered, and American patriots are not going to stand idly by, good sir, and allow our republic to dissolve," Higgins said, in his best Foghorn Leghorn voice, probably.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Lauren Boebert picks fight with witness, gets schooled at House hearing
Colorado Congresswoman and vigilante vaper Lauren Boebert picked a disingenuous fight with a Social Security official testifying about the agency's historic workload challenges and was immediately schooled by, well, elementary math.

Trump & Bannon launch new sneak attack on democracy to steal presidency
Democratic Party of Wisconsin: They know they can't win the presidency in a free and fair election, and they have already failed to steal the presidency through the courts and violence. So, MAGA's new frontier in snatching the White House is through elections that most voters ignore for little known offices that control how elections are won and certified. In Wisconsin, those elections are coming up soon, and Donald and his cronies have a slate of stooges who will rig the system for Trump. Thankfully, WisDems — the best state party in America — is fighting back to make sure none of these fascists can snag the levers of our democracy. But they can't do it alone. Will you chip in a few bucks to help WisDems safeguard Wisconsin's democracy and ensure a free & fair presidential election in 2024?
Henry Kissinger, secretary of state to Richard Nixon, dies at 100
Perhaps the most influential — and controversial — secretary of state in US history, Kissinger advised a dozen presidents over his long career, including Joe Biden, and ironically won a shared Nobel prize for negotiating the end to the Vietnam war, a brutal conflict he notoriously helped expand and one that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives. While Kissinger will be predictably lauded with accolades and remembrances from Republicans and Democrats alike over the coming days for his decades of service, it's important to remember his legacy was also defined by his contempt for human rights, with opponents across the world casting him as a war criminal. He supported Indonesia’s military dictator in the invasion of East Timor, backed the invasion of Angola by the apartheid regime in South Africa, and worked with the CIA to overthrow the democratically-elected president of Chile. He also authorized wiretaps of reporters and his own staff. A cause of death has not yet been released.

Elon Musk hurls defiant, profanity-laced retort at fleeing advertisers
Musk's stretch of no good, very bad, definitely getting worse weeks continued with quickening pace yesterday, as the billionaire tech bozo issued a head-scratching, profanity-laced message for advertisers who pulled money from the social media platform formerly known as Twitter amid a relentless backlash over his antisemitic behavior and proliferation of hate speech on the platform. Musk artfully stated, "If someone’s going to try to blackmail me with advertising, blackmail me with money, go fuck yourself." The noted car exploder wasn't finished. "Go fuck yourself. Is that clear? I hope it is. Hey, Bob!" Musk added, apparently directly calling out Disney CEO Bob Iger after the entertainment giant joined several other major companies, including Apple, IBM, and Coca-Cola, in abandoning advertising campaigns on the cratering platform. Keep up the good work, Elon.
UN weather agency says 2023 is the hottest year on record, warns of further climate extremes ahead
The World Meteorological Organization announced Thursday that 2023 is all but certain to be the hottest year on record and warned that humans will face increasing floods, wildfires, glacier melt, and catastrophic heat waves in the future. The report also warned that the average temperature for the year is up some 1.4 degrees Celsius (2.5 degrees Fahrenheit) from pre-industrial times — a mere one-tenth of a degree under a target limit for the end of the century as laid out by the Paris climate accord in 2015. The announcement comes as some 70,000 attendees converge on Dubai — nearly all arriving by air — for COP28, the United Nations climate confab helmed this year by the CEO of UAE's state-owned oil company, which has already announced plans to expand production capacity. It all makes sense if you don't think about it.
Israel and Hamas agree to extend Gaza ceasefire to allow for more hostage releases and humanitarian aid
Just minutes before the six-day ceasefire was due to expire, Israel and Hamas agreed to extend the pause in Gaza by at least one more day. Qatari mediators said the two sides had agreed to extend the truce "for an additional day (today, Thursday) under the existing conditions, which are a cessation of all military activities and the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza." Authorities said that 97 Israeli and foreign hostages have been released by Hamas and 210 Palestinians freed from Israeli prisons since the fragile ceasefire took hold. Qatar’s foreign affairs ministry also stated that further negotiations are ongoing in hopes of reaching a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. May cooler heads prevail.

George Santos introduces futile expulsion resolution in potential final act in Congress
Triple Crown-winning jockey and master sommelier to the stars George Santos may be on his way out the door (and into prison), but he's not going down without a futile fight, folks. The professional con artist filed a pointless, stupid, dead-on-arrival resolution to expel Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman for pulling a fire alarm in one of the House office buildings earlier this fall. Good luck with that, George.

2 Republicans in Arizona indicted after trying to delay 2022 election results
Hey look! Voter fraud! We found it! Surely congressional Republicans will be furious, furious over this latest revelation and demand an exhaustive investigation into what is surely just the tip of a giant, disenfranchising iceberg. Right? Right?
