Greetings!
We hope you had a great month! November is always a special time and important opportunity to express our full appreciation for our veterans. Congressman Kim is proud to make sure we have local veterans’ backs and throughout November worked to uplift their needs, honor them and their families’ service, and look forward to what more we can do to meet their needs. As November closes out, it is essential our nation continues this work to support our entire veteran community year-round.
As always, we hope you find the following updates and resources helpful!
Honoring Veterans Day and Military Family Appreciation Month
On Veterans Day, we joined in thanking all our nation’s veterans for their service. It is our honor to represent over 35,000 veterans who call our district home. For their bravery and sacrifice, we will always tirelessly work to be there for the millions across the country and deliver for their needs. This year, Congressman Kim was also honored to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Captain James MacFarland American Legion Post 79 in Burlington City.
This month, we also honored our servicemembers’ loved ones for their service. During Military Family Appreciation Month, we thank them for their commitment and continue working to look out for their needs for all they’ve given our country.
Congressman Kim Reintroduces Legislation to Honor Veterans’ Loved Ones
Ahead of Veterans Day, Congressman Kim and Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman reintroduced the Protecting Our Veterans’ Memories Act to help state-run veteran cemeteries properly honor those who served our nation. For all they’ve given our country, the legislation would be a tangible and impactful way to help make sure veterans and their loved ones don’t just have the care and respect they deserve throughout their lives, but also after they’ve passed.
The bill would provide states' Departments of Veterans Affairs with partial reimbursement for costs associated with the funerals and burials of veterans’ spouses and dependents in state veteran cemeteries. Learn more about the legislation here.
Congressman Kim Votes to Avert a Government Shutdown
The Congressman’s statement after voting to prevent the government from shutting down this month.
“Today we voted to protect the country from a government shutdown. After the Republicans wasted weeks of valuable time entertaining extreme political wishlists, I was able to vote for a continuing resolution clean of poisonous policies and help uphold Congress' basic duty: to fund the government. It is disappointing so many members of the Majority party chose to abandon that duty today.
At a time when stability and accountability is imperative to Americans and global allies, House Republicans’ continue to choose unpredictability and chaos. This funding approach is guaranteed to bring us back to a last-minute scramble just after the New Year to avert another potential shutdown. Americans deserve a government they can rely on year-round, not just in weeks-long increments. I will keep working toward a full-year funding agreement that supports families and our allies abroad.”
Congressman Kim Holds Annual Veterans Town Hall in Holmdel
It was great to be with so many neighbors at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Museum in Holmdel for Congressman Kims annual veterans town hall, his 69th monthly town hall! We appreciated our panel of local veterans for sharing their experience while in service and lessons that they wanted future generations to know.
