ACTION ALERT

No compromise is acceptable when it comes to protecting unborn children in Northern Ireland.

Date: 12/03/2020

As you know, in October 2019 the British Government imposed on Northern Ireland the most cruel and extreme piece of abortion legislation in the whole of Europe – Section 9 of the Northern Ireland Executive Formation Act 2019. A new legal framework for abortion will come into force by 31st March 2020.

Section 9 of the Northern Ireland Executive Formation Act is even worse than Britain’s 1967 Abortion Act or the recent abortion legislation in the Republic of Ireland.

Faced with the horrific prospect of one of the most liberal abortion regimes in Europe, some naïve people have been tempted to agree to abortion in Northern Ireland as long as the framework doesn’t go further than what is legally required by Section 9 of the NI Executive Formation Act.

This hope of ‘reducing’ the numbers of abortions may be well intentioned but we must not accept ANY compromise. Every abortion kills an unborn baby, regardless of the reason or stage the abortion takes place. A humane and civilised society can never bargain with the lives of babies in the womb.

The barbaric abortion legislation contained in Section 9 was passed by 332 pro-abortion MPs in Westminster, none of whom were elected in Northern Ireland. They took advantage of the political vacuum here and forced abortion in Northern Ireland. They ignored the principles of devolution and the democratic will of the people here.

Northern Ireland’s First Minister Arlene Foster recently wrote to the NI Secretary of State to say any decisions on abortion in Northern Ireland should only be made by “…elected representatives from Northern Ireland, representing the electorate who voted for them.”

Past attempts in Westminster to limit abortion in Britain resulted in the legalising of abortion up to birth for babies with a disability or life-limiting condition, and other reasons.

Westminster has done enough damage already when they decided to force abortion on Northern Ireland, and at this moment, still has a pro-abortion majority. Therefore, asking the British government to ‘limit’ abortion in Northern Ireland (by only implementing what is legally required by Section 9) would actually have disastrous results, and sends out the message that ‘some’ abortion is acceptable.

In Northern Ireland, nothing less than the REPEAL of Section 9 is acceptable!

Click here [[link removed]] to contact your MP to ask them to oppose ANY implementation of Section 9 and do everything within their power to Repeal Section 9

You can also click here [[link removed]]to sign our online petition to REPEAL SECTION 9 and restore legal protection for all unborn babies in Northern Ireland.

With very best wishes
